General Chat / Do leases last for 24 hours or just until end of month?

I leased a very long range plane for way too much and there's no way I'll get the money back from the lease.  Should I wait 24 hours before canceling the lease or should I just dump it before the end of the month?

I'm trying to figure out why this guy..

Is more profitable than I am on a DOP basis.  I have roughly the same size business, but his DOP is much higher.  I also looked on the map and he seems to be flying some routes (Mexico City to Europe) that are beyond the range of his aircraft.  

Also, he is listed as flying to Edinburg, Scotland, but when I look at that gate, his airline is not listed as an airline that goes to that airport.  What's up with that?

Any ideas on what he might be doing to be more profitable than similar competitors?  Inputs appreciated.

Bugs / Maps not showing up on rankings page

Don't be mad that I'm making another post here.  Just consider me free QA for your app.  When looking at the rankings of airlines on the rankings page quite often the airline map of each airline doesn't show up when you go to the page.  It seems intermittent.  Sometimes this shows up and sometimes it doesn't.

Putting a ' into a message to another player causes a problem with a message being sent.  It is probably reserved character within the db or something.

How can I tell how long it takes for planes to be made?  I just bought a plan with a 100+ capacity and it says it will take two days for it to show up.

I read the wiki on alliances and it says nothing about why you'd want to join one.  What are the concrete benefits?  Also, do you have to put the stupid or [whatever] into your airline name?  Thanks.

General Chat / Do things like speed and aircraft size/comfort impact demand

I have a question around demand in a marketplace.  Do aircraft size and speed impact the demand for said flights on a route?  That is, would a plan with 10 seats that flies 500 mph be able to charge much more than one that flies at 100.  Is there a bias towards jets or larger planes for comfort sake?

I was thinking about this today.  Why would anyone want to become a pretend middleman for pretend airlines in a pretend airplane game?  Isn't that becoming a little abstract?  Perhaps next we'll have pretend copier repairmen who service the pretend copiers of the pretend brokerage that brokers pretend deals for pretend airlines.  Anyone else puzzled by this?

I saw this option in the game and am wondering how many people do this.  Is it time realistic?  Back in the day people would get dressed up for flights and everyone got food and drinks for free.  I'm thinking that charging for this in the 70's would pretty much make you go under.  Do people actually do this?

I tried leasing out and selling an airplane today.  The game limits what you can do for pricing.  Is this not totally unrealistic?  Why shouldn't I be allowed to sell a plane for what I want?  I'm not just going to scrap the plane as it's not worth it to go through the hassle otherwise.

General Chat / Rule of thumb for fee for creating a new base at a $ airport

I looked through the manual but it makes no mention of this that I can see.  I'm looking to create a new base.  I'd like to do so at a busy hub.  The issue is leasing enough gates to do this requires a significant investment.  Once I do this, I then find out what the fee would be to create a base.  Should I not be able to know this before making the base?  Is there any way to tell?  Help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Does anyone know what is a good DOP per gate a main hub.  I'm talking about exclusive of revenues from other venues such as airplane rentals, leases, gates, other bases, etc.

I searched for this topic and didn't find anything.  Does anyone know how the maintenance cost is calculated?  I know that maint is included in the leases, so I want to weigh the value of my leases vs the value of ownership/maintenance.  Anyone have any ideas?

General Chat / No more gates at home airport

I now have 100% of the gates at my home airport used.  There are no more for purchase.  Setting up a terminal would take 5000% of what my company is probably worth.  How do I move forward from here?  I can't setup routes from anything but my home gate it seems.  What do I do next?  Thanks.
