Title: New official brokers
Post by: dktc on June 05, 2009, 04:42:36 am
In response to the on-going requests to have more brokerage services, we have appointed 4 new official brokers. These brokers are all senior members that have been active in the AM community. They have proven themselves through the in-game achievements, as well as interaction with other players. We trust that they will be able to provide top-notch brokerage services in many worlds. The new brokers are

iranair777 - id 679
area51 - id 4022
Cheung Airlines - id 10252
CHR - id 10349

They are going to join our existing group of official brokers, including

sla31 - id 31
MrOrange - id 150
dktc - id 616
killian320 - id 761
Zero-G - id 13680

The new brokers will start opening for business the coming Sunday (7 Jun), at the earliest. Please refer to the A-Z of the Broker Market (http://stephenm.org/smfforum/index.php?board=24.0) sub-forum for they availabilities.

If you would like to become an official broker, please refer to this thread (http://stephenm.org/smfforum/index.php?topic=1487.msg9118#msg9118). Being an active participate in the AM community, through forum, message board, wiki, irc chat, and in-game performance are also criteria for evaluation.

Is it possible to ensure an active broker in all words of over say,  people?

Does the world owner automatically become a broker?

No and No.

There are 291 active worlds on-going in the game at the time of this post. I don't know where you would want to draw the line, but it is pretty hard to have the man-power to be in all worlds of over x people. It is not that many people will use the service of the brokers, but the fact that each broker has to log into and check the status of quite a number of worlds, which is time-consuming. Another issue is that for each broker joining a private world, one player quota would be taken up.

World owners do not automatically become a broker. There have been suggestions that world owners could appoint their own admins and brokers in their worlds. However, we have since encountered some issues with owners editing / deleting the airlines of our players for no reason at all. This is in conflict with the interest of the game, and of us admins. As a result, we are in discussion for possible restraints on the power of world owners, and any further empowerment has been put on hold.

Frankly, private worlds do not need official brokers. Due to a loophole that is more or less stated above, it is quite easy to finance airlines in private worlds, and a lot of owners are abusing their power in that sense.

Ali's an official broker now?!!? The world is coming to an end!

Congrats! I wouldn't be able to deal with the stress. I might have been on the bottom of the list of potential brokers, but hey, maybe next time around when somebody drops out. ;)
