Surely it IS the competition and cut and thrust that MAKES the game?

I don't mean wading in to a new base and destroying all the legacy airlines there, but building a network and keeping your Airline profitable and nimble DESPITE lots of competition?

On a final note, if you are doing such a 'great' job, wouldn't you be flattered by another Airline using your business model to succeed?

I have learnt more from playing games in which HAL operates than any other.... now there IS someone to try and copy.... success wise.

5x ERJ-170LR it is, then.

Perfect start A/C. Versatile, low MX, good range and wont need replacing from initial start routes.

Naturally, Airlines will upgrade to larger spec aircraft as the game develops.

Good choice.

Thanks for letting me join.

Bring it ON

I'M IN!

Sounds terrific to me.

Not too long, lightening expansion with great A/C coming online in the (few) years ahead.

Game Strategy / Re: Which continent and why?
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:17:03 pm »
I've kind of become hooked in - on Asia.

However, I am about to end in a public World where I learned so much that in effect it has lost some of it's challenges.

I am playing in a fun relatively small World at the moment, again in Asia, however there is lots of scope to grow on other Continents, however, any future Worlds I play in I want to challenge myself and will NOT be an Asian 'based' carrier. At least at the start.

The most fun I ever had was basing myself in Honolulu!

Slow growth to start with, you really have to max out the hours on researched A'C initially, then very carefully choose L'H A'C as that is where your only viable high yield income comes from.
Then naturally, opening bases elsewhere.
I connected my HNL base by then opening in Australasia.

It took quite a lot of planning and research which was a lot more fun than ordering say, 10 A319s and just adding gates at NRT.

I don't really join any World these days expecting to win, a top 10 finish is enough, any higher a bonus.

What ever I play, I always ensure the game is 'fun' for me to take part in.

Well as any long standing player of AM can tell you, there are often many variables that seem strange or unexplainable.

I have been a member for some time, have created my own Worlds, played in others and also played in Public Worlds.
The latter being by far the best, mentally taxing, stimulating and when you play against 700 other players, you'd better have a good strategy.

But back to the thread. Maintenance fees. There are problems with the matrix used in this game.
But my own experience proves that you can use this to your advantage.
If you have some savvy you can make them work for you.

Dependant on which World you are in, what mix of A'C you use, where you are based and a fundamental understanding of which A/C accrue the largest M fees, you can make serious money.

For example, not really knowing the 'matrix' used, I am playing in a World where by simply replacing then scrapping a 4 year old ATR my M costs went down by 40 YES 40 MILLION!
This despite operating A330s A319s and 40 ATRs.

In another World, by sticking to only short haul A/C and having 200,000 LESS passengers than my nearest rival I am in the top 5 of a World DOMINATED by Long Haul carriers. There are 70 players behind me.

PsuedoSwede and Hal have posted on here frequently about how to maximise your profits and run a successful Airline, I suggest that while you may not understand how M works (I don't really either) the wealth of knowledge they give should be enough for you.

It works for me.

Been a little inactive of late as been playing in one AM public World and found it amazingly different, complex and fun.

I do still intend to create this World (Great to hear from you Tommy), will buy the tokens when ready to launch, but as a LONG World need a bit more interest as no point in ending up playing alone in such a big, expansive game.

Will keep you all posted.

That's very true, but some players (myself included) do like to add and pepper their networks with some L/H routes.

It's a game after all, I ensure my S/H network can easily absorb the extra costs and my DOC is high before ordering any L/H aircraft.

I'm a bit of a 'map' player, in that I also like to see my network grow and enjoy seeing my new destinations on the map.

As I said, we can all be serious players, but it's also meant to be a game and a bit of fun.

Hi,
I would love to join this world.. I always like playinig on worlds, when I can start from day one...
Could there be a possibility I can Join?

I have played as Eastern, Mexicana, Carnival And Allegiant in previous years. But i was reading that we can't use real airlines names and logos. Is that True.  If it is then Im working on the logo of a NEW  airline.

Jan 1 would be an awsome time to start..

thanks
Orlando

Hi there, YES, you would need to join with a new fictitious Airline name, but after that would be free to start in any base, Worldwide and create your airline.

There will be NO restrictions on bases ( a few foreign, but not many) so you will be free to grow as you please.

The idea behind this game is that over time you will face REAL competition, need to replace A/C and THINK about how you grow your Airline from day 1.

If this still interests you, please let me know.

Neither box3 nor the normal server are working for me now, though box3 worked earlier. Box3 was slow, but it worked...
It's working for me, but yes, it is slow.

Yup, a little sluggish, but working for me also

I would definitely join, but currently only have 15 tokens so it would have to be in a little while.

EXCELLENT!

You would be most welcome to join, what is really needed is players who can log in and out at their free time even if they are busy doing other 'stuff'.

I am away for most of November then of course Christmas is upon us.

So I was thinking of a (game date which will be January 1st) late November start.

Let me know what you think.
