Title: ATR-72-200 and ATR-72-210
Post by: Cheung Airlines on May 24, 2008, 09:49:17 am
Why are people keep buying ATR-72-200 and deploy them on short routes i.e. routes within 1000nm?
ATR-72-200 and ATR-72-210 are basically the same.
The only difference is speed and range, which are not important in short hauls.
Also, -200 has a larger fuel consumption than the 210.
This question keep circling my head as I sleep last night.
Could anyone explain this? :?

Because the ATR-72-200 has 457 nm more range than the ATR-72-210? Is a good idea to have that little more range, if you want to do a longer flight.

But most (As far as I have seen, it should be all) of the operators are operating them with SHORT HAULS!!!

Ergo, you can't think. I suspected as much. :P

Planes have a usefull life of more than a couple months. Well, some of them do, anyway. When it's time to start shuffling aircraft around, it helps having the extra range available. If people only bought short range it could mean extra expense later on.

I use ATRs from Ashgabat to Europe. My 3rd most profitable route is Ashgabat-Amsterdam, flown by an ATR-42. A whopping 11 hour flight...
A longer range aircraft has more value when selling it.
