General Chat / Android Users - Basic App Test
« on: May 04, 2010, 02:42:39 pm »
This is now defunct. I'm moving on to V2

So I got board and wanted to learn basic app scripting for Android platform. I copied a generic template and created a quick launch Airline Mogul app. Basically what it does is installs the traditional app launch button on your menu but instead of running to the browser and having to enter the site in, this goes directly to the full site. To be honest it's nothing you can't do on your own by just opening the basic browser, but hey, it's much more fun to have the AM icon there.

Install Instructions:

Turn on "Unknown Sources" by going to Settings -> Application Settings. Then check the box and click OK.

Next download ( or use ) barcode scanner and scan the square barcode below.  If you don't have barcode scanner simply enter the following web-adress into your browser and it should download do the same thing as the barcode... Download and install.

Note: I'd love to learn more, one of the things I want to do is have a button where you can click for either the game, forum or manual and it would go to specific sites for each. Though since AM is not completely mobile friendly this will have to wait.

Clear Cache. Go into the application settings and clear the cache. It will take up extra space.

There my be some glitches since good parts of the source are copied. :/ I kept messing up so I had to copy the original example provided by Google.

General Chat / "Wikinews interviews Stephen Murphy" ... Wait... What?!
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:03:21 pm »
I saw this article on Wikinews and and took me a couple seconds to compute that it was not our local Stephen... And here I was hoping that AM got some good press or something. Pity it's just about them Australian folk. So is the first and sur-name rather common? o.O Or have you cloned yourself and gotten into politics?!

The future of Microsoft's Flight Simulator series is uncertain after the company fired all of Flight Simulator's developers this January. Microsoft still insists that it is "committed" to the series, although the ACES studio, which develops the simulator, was closed when the company shed 5000 jobs.

Nels Anderson, the founder of FlightSim.com, a MSFS enthusiast website, called it a "dark day" for the simulation market. "Microsoft have apparently cancelled a 27 year franchise. Flight sims were one of the few things about Microsoft people actually liked. It made them money and had an enormous following. To cancel something like that is an amazing thing to do," he said in an interview with the BBC.

Derek Davis, who is the editor of the PC Pilot Magazine, however, said that there could be a bright side to the news: "I don't know what the eventual fate of Microsoft's Flight Simulator series will be, but I think we're going to see a rise in sales and an increase in third-party development. There is now some stability to be had — we're all going to be using FSX for some time — and that is going to make it far easier for developers to produce new aircraft," he said. Flight Simulator X (FSX) is the current edition in the series.

The Flight Simulator series is possibly the longest-running computer game series ever, with the first version of the game released back in 1982. It is known, not only for its official releases, but also for its dedicated fan base, which has produced large amounts of third-party addons for the game.

Prior to the dissolution of the ACES studio, an eleventh version of Flight Simulator was planned for release in about a year and a half. Also in development at the studio at the time of its closure was Microsoft Train Simulator 2, which was expected to be released this year.

Game News / Airline Mogul IRC - We need your love!
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:42:13 pm »
Hello! I’m TTA and I’m an Alc… No wait, wrong forum.

Hello! I’m TTA and I’m addicted me… -checks his flash card notes.-

Hello! I’m TTA and I’m an IRC Lurker. We folks here at Airline Mogul enjoy the comforts of a forum reigned over by the oppressive hand of Stephen M. (Just joking) But don’t you want an escape? A place where you can laugh, enjoy a sandwich, cookies and poke at smaller airlines with a stick?

Than the AM IRC is for you! I happily sit there, waiting for your company! Everyday I’m lurking, in the depths of the AM server with DKTC… Is this really how you want me to end my life with you?

On a happier note, here is what the IRC can offer:

Tech support! Have a question of what’s what? Or need some overall strategy advice?
Chit-Chat! It’s random chat friendly! Topic jumping and sometimes utter nonsense roam free!
Pin-the-tail-on-the-Aussie! Need I say more?

Of course, these are just the obvious issues. The truth is, me and DKTC are just lonely and want your company. So, after a mini-chit-chat we’ve decided to start our IRC campaign! Encouraging you to join, lurk, and watch.

The IRC is not always talkative, as I said, we “lurk”. Feel free to just stay in the IRC until someone strikes up a conversation.

When you come for tech support, please give us time. So many people join and leave within 3 minutes of asking their question. Remember, we can’t always be looking at the window, be patient with us, you should eventually get a response.

Visit us at: http://airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/irc.php - Or by downloading an IRC client and enter "/attach airlinemogul.com" and then "/join #airlinemogul".
