Nobody has Flight Sims?
example: X-plane, FSX, FS9/FS2004, etc, etc

It's a summer morning in 1946, somewhere east of Moscow. A roar of engines shatters the silence, explosions ripping across the nearby airstrip. All of a sudden, one of the 4 raiders, an Il-2, gets hit by a hailstorm of 20mm cannonshells. The Il-2 is ripped apart. In the matter of 2 minutes, another two plummet towards the ground.
Circling high above in large circles, Lt. Klaus Bekker pulls his aircraft back towards the airfield. 'Damn, that last one got away. But at least we got 3 of those pesky Russians. It's about time we get that early warning radar up and running. Leninskoye Airbase is no use if those pesky Shturmoviks hit it every morning!'
Lt. Klaus rounds up his wingmen, and returns to Leninskoye. Luckily the runway has escaped unharmed. Back on base, Klaus marvels at his lovely new plane. Nicknamed the Huckebein, the Focke Wulf Ta-183 is the very latest among jet fighters. With it's sleek swept-back wings, it is supposedly able to go supersonic in a dive!
A bell rings, and an officer runs out of the tower towards Klaus. 'B-17s! Spotted on the banks of the Kubyshevskoye! 8 of them! Get as many Huckebeins up there as possible, and shoot them down before they can do any damage to our supply lines! Klaus runs towards his plane, starts up his engine and taxies out to the runway. The Ta-183 shudders as the engine throttles up the maximum power, and screams off the runway. A single wingman follows. The 3 other Huckebeins had broken down. Speeding across the countryside, the two pilots form up. The ground crew had managed to refuel and rearm the jets, and they had even been equipped with 4 X-4 air-to-air missiles.
'There! 4 early version B-17s! 1000 meters, heading west-south-west!' shouts Klaus into the microphone, jubilantly ordering his wingman to attack at will! They both fire a missile each. They hit their respective targets, blowing the tail section right off and sending 2 B-17s tumbling down. As the two jets approach, they open fire with a lethal barrage of four 20mm cannons. The second B-17 explodes right in front of Klaus. He pulls up hard, looping around for a second run. Spotting his target, he runs in, guns blazing. The B-17 is shredded.
'Time to get out of here'. Klaus explains to his wingman that he has been hit, and is going to eject. Thank god for the ejection seat. Klaus pulls out of range of the bombers, and pulls that handle. A powerful rocket egnites, sending Klaus rocketing into the sky.
Klaus reaches the ground without any trouble. He grabs for his emergency radio, calling for pickup. After a short while, he hears the familiar 'whup whup whup' sound of the CSAR helicopter, a Flettner modified with heavy weapons and night vision gear. At least Klaus will live to fly another day.

This game kicks ass. MS FSX can barely manage to keep up with it, and Il-2 1946 is hardly anything more than a lot of expansions to the original Il-2 release from 2001

At St. Marteen, the ATC made a fatal error. Ten more meters, and it would have been a fatal crash! And here, low speed is under 130 knots! (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/2009-12-23_11-39-58-930.jpg) Finally, some eyecandy :) (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/2009-8-7_6-11-20-86.jpg)

Here are a few from a strike on St. Petersburg, dated December 26th 1947. The strike was performed by Finnish AF Arado Ar-234s and Hungarian AF Focke Wulf Fw-200s. At least 2 Fw-200s were shot down, as well as a single Arado.
Following a strike on a factory complex in western Russia, i limp home in my battle-scared He-111. My nose gunner is dead, and the pilot is wounded. The plane is leaking and the starboard engine has been knocked out. I hit the factory though.

I had a go in the mother of all flight simulators today. I'm afraid i have no photos for you. It was a full size 737-800 simulator, an actual one used for training pilots. I got to try 2 landings. First one was on calm wind, and was spot on! Second go was with a 10 knot crosswind, and according to the instructor, it was a textbook approach, but the landing itself was a bit hard :D
And yes, i'm going for the real deal now. After high-school, i'm going to become a real pilot! :)

Excellent! :D I was on a 738 on Sunday that tried landing in a cross-wind, but ended up going around due to windsheer over the runway. They got it down the second time though. :)

Any possibility you might pilot a flight to Toronto YYZ? StephenM/ VS?
8)
Mayhaps. Airlines in the US/North America don't pay their pilots enough. Emirates pays quite well though, so i might come by some day in the front-seat of an A380 8) Kidding aside, most pilots i've talked to recommend Emirates and FlyDubai. They are expanding really fast, have new planes, need many pilots, very good wages, and supercars cost next to nothing in Dubai ;)

You flared too much and too early. How it is done in real-life: 1. Keep on the glideslope, 2 red and 2 white 2. When you pass the green lights at the threshold you cut the throttle back to idle. 3. At 20 feet you begin to flare. 4. Flare shall be no more than 5 degrees nose-up attitude. 5. Glide the plane down carefully, and on touchdown lower the nose softly.
Keep to these 5 points, and you can't mess it up. At least thats what they teach me at flight school ;)
Title: Re: This years random theardy: FS thread

What I do is keep the plane (normally a 738) at 140-145 knots, sometimes a bit more, depending on the length of the field (shorter field = higher speed as I need more precision :P). I try to touchdown as soon as I cross the threshold, without landing on it. I probably flare a bit more than 5 degrees, but it isn't that much either.
My best landings has been ~100 feet/second, but I've had landings of ~1000-1500 f/s. My average would be around 300-500 f/s (a little rough).
I think it is easier to land in VC than in 3rd person, because in 3rd person you suddenly realize you are over the runway, while in VC you have time to think.
Lately I've tried instrument landings and I find them challenging. It is really hard to stay on course in thick fog! Especially in a sensitive Cessna 172!
I'll record my next landing so you can glaze upon my flying skillz :P

I prefer around 150 - 160 knots when landing in 737s, and 170 - 180 knots in widebodies. I usually set the throttle to somewhere about 50%, which gives me enough speed. I don't touch the throttle until i'm over the threshold. I usually only use autobrake, and i rarely use reverse thrust.
I prefer night landings, they are more fun.
The high speed also makes it more of a challenge. You need to think faster. And you are forced to limit the flare to 5 degrees at most, as you have enough speed to climb a bit. It also softens the landing a bit. I also prefer the VC over the panel. It's more realistic, and gives a better view of the runway.

I took too long to land... And then I forgot to brake...
Look at this, here I still have around 20-30 knots: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/FSX/2011-3-21_23-16-42-571.jpg)
(http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/FSX/2011-3-21_23-16-29-929.jpg) Here, I discovered I had to brake HARD, as I was travelling at ~110 knots. With less than 1500 feet of runway. The thing is that I was a bit off course, so I concentrated in lining up after landing instead of braking - not even reverse thrust. So I ended bursting tires and damaging engines (reverse thrust at low speed) :P
I don't think there was any crosswind, but somehow I managed to end up like this during landing: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/FSX/2011-3-21_23-16-4-283.jpg)

Ugh, the twin-engined KLM thingy behind the Daedalus A340-300, is that supposed to be an A330?
Apart from that, quite nice screenies!
I got to try out the 737-800 full motion simulator as part of the entry test at the flight school. This time i got around 20 minutes of landings, turning, cruising and takeoffs. Especially the takeoff was fun! It's a fantastic sensation that you just can't imagine unless you try it yourself. Now i can't wait until i get to try the real thing!

Kinda rough graphics cause its a demo but I'm about to get FSX! (No its not my first time using it, I just haven't bought a copy for myself yet) FSX is so much fun to mess around with!

Use Fraps, or HyperCam. Fraps will kill your frame rates, though :P

Then convert the file to make it smaller, or you can upload the 4 GB file :P

Screenshots of Ultimate Traffic 2: Plane spotting around the world. Guess the airports!
It takes a long time to load. You might need to refresh it multiple times in order to get the clear picture.
Once, I came very close to a prop with a jet and made a vid. Gonna upload it tommorow. Crappy upload speeds here ( 80 Kbps Upload, 13 Mb/s download) :P

As if that wasn't bad enough, it also has a Boeing 747 cockpit!
That's because it was from Traffic X. Sean has that and you can get any plane you want. But there is a catch: 2 engine planes use the default 737 cockpit and 4 engine planes use a default 747 one. Oh well, I guess that's what we get for flying AI Traffic :P

Video of the landing. Boy, this was hard! I went to like 110 knots when I touched down. For some reason, the nose gear comes down WAY too fast in a CRJ-900.
