I (rather foolishly) opened my airline at NCE, with only 2 gates - there are now no gates left, so I can't expand. I don't have enough cash to open another base. Is there any way to bribe/cajole other airlines to give me another gate at NCE ? All suggestions gratefully received.

I've got the same problem at Orly. There's only 7 gates left and their going very fast. I was considering switching all my domestic routes to Beauvais-Tillé but the routes don't earn as much. :(

Although it is expensive, you can try opening a terminal. This way you can build as many gates as you like. Also, although you have to pay a large amount of money up front for the gates, you pay less rental fees.

But don't you have to return gate(s) as well? Thus giving a competitor space to move in?
